It was a good one - different than any before. Sometime I wish i wrote a diary. This will have to do.
J team started Christmas at the beginning of Nov, so that week I put up two trees and had arranged for Christmas focus for most of that term with memory verses and all the other bits and pieces that make up the planning.
Activities had been going from beginning of Dec with Parade and Worship INC (family service) in the first weekend, Outings to organise (paperwork galore) final leaders meeting and the break up party in the next weekend. Visit to the local public library to to a Christmas presentation and to a local retirement village to do the same. Before we actually hit the Christmas services! Plus the break up parties - work dos, and all sorts of things finishing for the year
As you can imagine they all required planning, preperation and the actual doing. No wonder I have arrived on my holiday stressed out! Plus I moved house in there as well!
But, before I rambled on - the actual Christmas bit was really nice. A family type service at 6pm, the traditional one at 11pm and the family celebration on Christmas morning. I was technically only working for the family one, playing for the other two. It was a busy day with pulling chairs around, setting it up and finding the last of the people to do it. (People are incredibly hard to pin down that time of year). I fell back on my list making in the afternoon (well it was another list, one of many of the month) carefully written on was to have a nap!
As it happens had company for my nap and a lovely afternoon before rushing off to work. Apparently I was looking radient - but you can't really trust the source - as least I don't! Service went rather smoothly (couple of things to work on) considering it was soo different than what has been done before. My script went ok, was quite proud of it. Jackie White did a great job and actually complimented me on it. I am feeling rather pleased with that, her opinon I do trust, she doesn't say stuff she doesn't mean.
Made it home for a couple of hours - wasn't expecting that so managed to make a batch of cookies for the next day. Had a great chat with Anu - funny boy and much younger than I actually thought - when I found out he is only 23 I couldn't help myself - I said - I really am the old lady downstairs then - He said not that old - women in there thirties are still rather gorgeous! Thanks I think (Not quite there yet!)
Late service went fine, back to mums for gifts with Geraldine and James. Some lovely stuff and going to be great using it. Almost had to do a few loads to get it to the car. Home by 3am and unfortunatly alarm went off at 6am - had to get to the Ch Day service anyway. Bit groggy! But Rochelle managed to top me by only getting 1 hr.
Part of the service was prayer balloons - Me, Barry and Sarah had been blowing them up for days beforehand. Everyone then tie a tag to it, writing on one side something you are thankful for and something you would like prayer for. Then during - in this case Joy to the World - a song you pat them all around, taking one home and praying for what ever is on the tag. The slight hickup in this is you can't do it if you are playing! But did end up with one and have taken it home to pray for.
The family thing this year wasn't until night - so went home to relax, too wound up to snooze (did try) so did some washing and potted around. Made the dessert, iced the biscuits, thought of what I am going to pack for holiday. Got a lift up to the beach and almost cried I was so tired. But managed to join in and enjoyed it.
Debbie had planned a beachy type day. Beach cricket - frisbee - and dinner bbq later. But once again things didn't go quite as planned. I was wasted and many didn't follow along with those plans - so basically things ended up as usual. Including the seemingly required huffs, tears and dissapointments. But, all still family. And together to celebrate the day.
A nice slow boxing day - catching up on sleep and just enjoying things. Off on holiday on 27th. Didn't sleep again. only a couple of hours. Arrived very tired - slept for hours, taking days to come right. But with good food and long sleeps it is doing the job.
Started thinking about what I will be doing next week at work. Getting exciting! Must be feeling better!
Giving of gifts - Do you give something in expectation of what you will receive? I don't, I carefully think out my gifts - often not expensive but more meaningful. I guess learning that about you takes time. I am always surprised when people are generous. And very lucky when they are!
Will do holiday in separate post.....
